Kikyou (キキョウ, Kikyō^? ) is Lisianthus’ younger twin sister and a side character in the Shuffle! series.

Kikyou makes a return in Princess x Princess as a side character, along with her twin sister.

Personality

Kikyou a bit more mischievous than Sia and is also far more insecure and shyer. Being unaccustomed to dealing with other people, Kikyou is rather awkward around everyone at first. When she feels comfortable around the people at hand, Kikyou becomes more outgoing than Sia with a straightforward type of manner and speech.

Background

The twin sister that was meant to be born with her, but she couldn't survive so Sia decided to save Kikyou by allowing Kikyou's soul to reside inside of her own. Kikyou emerges and takes control of Sia's body when Sia is depressed or when she feels that Sia should be more aggressive to Rin. In Shuffle! Essence+, Kikyou gets a route where she and Sia are able to be separated and thereby co-exist together.

The difference between Kikyou and her sister's appearance is that Kikyou usually wears a hair tie on her left wrist and has a backwards ahoge.

In Princess x Princess, her name is spelled Kikyo, and it is shrouded in mystery.

• Lisianthus: Her older twin sister, the two have an unbreakable bond and have no problem sharing Rin with the other.
• Rin Tsuchimi: Her love interest that she shares with her sister.
• Mayumi Thyme: Her friend, both are mischievous and get along well.
• Lithia: Her great-niece.

Etymology

• The name Kikyou is written in katakana (キキョウ), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (桔梗), it could possibly mean "Chinese bellflower".

Trivia

• There was supposed to be a bonus spinoff for Shuffle! Essence+ entitled, "Princess Princess" which focused on Lisianthus and Kikyou's route with Rin where the three of them went to the Gods world and were involved in a big incident. It was in production, but as of April 2011, it is unknown and likely stalled or cancelled.
  • Princess x Princess is the spinoff, only now it focuses on Lithia, Sia's great niece.
