Nadeshiko Benibara (紅薔薇 撫子 Benibara Nadeshiko? ) is a side character in the Shuffle! series. She is Rin Tsuchimi's homeroom teacher at Verbena Academy who is single, attractive and she is frequently the victim of pickup lines, including from the King of Demons and Itsuki Midoriba.
She gets her own route in Shuffle! Essence+ and Really? Really.
Personality
Nadeshiko tends to be a hot-blooded woman; she loves straightforwardness, determination, effort, and friendship, which is tough on her students. Still, she also has flexibility, depending on the situation. It appears she had some martial arts training, for example, being able to slice a bottle with her bare hand. She has a habit of dealing out extreme punishments such as writing 100-page reports and dragging a tire around the track for minor offenses.
Due to her looks and appearance, she is very popular with the students. In Really? Really! during the cultural festival event, she is nominated for "Miss Verbena" (similar to homecoming queen) despite being a teacher. She placed third.
Character Relationships
- Rin: Her student. Benibara has a soft spot for Rin because of his caring personality and his diligence as a student. She develops feelings for him during her route in Essence+.
- Itsuki: Her troublesome student. Itsuki, more often than not, tries to make a move on her, which usually results in her giving him a ridiculous assignment or detention. Their conversations are usually a comical part of the series.
- Mayumi: Another one of her troublesome students. Benibara is usually harder on Mayumi because she's not only terrible at studying; she's also doesn't try to improve her grades. She often scolds for her laziness and when she misses detention to hang out with Rin and the others.
Etymology
- The name Nadeshiko means "carnation flower" (撫子).
- In Japanese culture, the term Yamato Nadeshiko is used for an ideal woman.
- Nadeshiko's surname Benibara means "crimson, deep red" (紅) (beni) and "rose" (薔薇) (bara).
